My husband was apprehensive and anxious about having his cataracts removed but was put at ease by Mr Petrarca who took time to explain the procedure with drawings and answered all questions patiently and clearly. The first operation went well and the second was even easier. The final check up showed that both operations had been successful. My husband was very satisfied and impressed with the care and attention he had received from Mr Petrarca and his team.

I had been diagnosed with Glaucoma over 10 years ago and 2 years ago it had progressed rapidly and under the expert care of Mr Petrarca I have had 2 trabeculectomy procedures that have been completely successful in lowering my eye pressures to a safe level. Through every stage he very clearly explained what needed to be done and the long term benefits of the procedure and I have always felt in the safest hands with Mr Petrarca. He is a very nice guy as well, he even called me the following evening after my procedure in order to check that all was well. In summary I feel very lucky to have been (and continue to be) under his care.

I was very nervous sitting in the waiting area at Ashtead Hospital waiting for a consultation for a cataract operation. I needn't have been as from the moment Mr Petrarca called me into the consulting room his manner was one of calm and politeness which was so reassuring. He explained the procedure and did the necessary tests and I agreed to have surgery. The appointment came through extremely quickly. On walking into Ashtead Hospital on the day of surgery I was shown to my room and Mr Petrarca came and explained exactly what was going to happen in great detail. During the operation every step of the way was explained. There was no pain and no discomfort. Everybody in the team made you feel relaxed and comfortable. Before I was discharged Mr Petrarca came to see me, and made sure I was alright. I then went back to the hospital for my checkup and everything was fine. I have since been back and had my other eye done and cannot believe what a difference it has made. I would personally like to thank you Mr Petrarca and your team and Ashtead Hospital for showing me such Kindness and allaying any fears that I had.

I was nervous about having anybody fiddle with my eye, but Mr Petrarca started by asking me to explain what I was experiencing and then went to a lot of trouble to explain what the problem was and the options for fixing it. He didn't blind me with science, if you'll pardon the expression, but used simple explanations and drawing on a note pad he clearly kept specifically for such explanations. The op he recommended was exactly as he promised, simple, painless and, if anything, with a quicker positive result than I had expected. During the op, the theatre was calm and he treated his staff with courtesy and efficiency...there was no faffing around or mis-communications. He also took time to explain the whole process as it happened, making it sound like a walk in the park. That normality and ease of explanation and process reassured me and made the whole thing much more relaxing. I guess I might have been lucky....but it didnt feel like luck...it just felt like a well controlled, highly disciplined operation from consultation to the follow-up appointment four weeks after the op.
